About NCTB

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board is the statutory authority responsible for the national curriculum and school textbooks of Bangladesh.

History & mandate

NCTB was constituted under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board Ordinance, 1983, bringing together the work of the earlier textbook boards and the curriculum and syllabus committees into a single national body. It operates under the Ministry of Education.

The Board develops and revises the national curriculum and prepares, prints and distributes textbooks for pre-primary, primary, secondary and higher-secondary education, including madrasa (Ebtedayi and Dakhil), vocational and technical streams, ethnic-minority-language editions and Braille.

Every year NCTB produces and distributes textbooks to students across the country free of cost — one of the largest annual textbook distribution efforts in the world. Its governing framework was modernised by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board Act, 2018.

NCTB is headquartered at 69–70 Motijheel Commercial Area, Dhaka 1000.
